In 1983, Robert Huckabee III formed the predecessor to Southland Gaming of the Virgin Isalnds and Southland Amusements and Vending, Inc. The Company was incorporated as Southland Amusements and Vending, Inc. in 1984. Its primary function was to operate and distribute coin-operated amusement devices. In 1993, two sister companies, Southland Gaming, Inc. and A&E Distribution, Inc. were created. Both sister companies were created to take advantage of emerging device route operations such as video gaming and amusement. A&E Dristribution operates in South Carolina and Southland Gaming operates in Louisiana.

In 1996, Mr. Huckabee incorporated Great Western Amusement, Inc. and GameStar Technologies, both operators of amusement devices in Texas.

In 1998, the Company started operations in Georgia. Also, in 1998, Mr. Huckabee incorporated Southland Gaming of the Virgin Islands, Inc. which was selected to implement and operate the video lottery for the U.S. Virgin Islands Lottery.

Although organized as separate entities, these companies operate with an overlapping management and operating structure.
