Sandy Halliday is the Director of the Responsible Gaming Program for Southland Gaming of the Virgin Islands (SGVI). With three decades as a respected businessman and resident of the Virgin Islands, he brings extensive industry experience and an unparalleled commitment to his community. As the driving force behind the Responsible Gaming Program, established by SGVI to proactively address problem gambling issues, he educates using a variety of proven tools and resources. His educational efforts have led SGVI to become a Silver Member of the National Council on Problem Gambling. Since joining the company in 2004, he has been recognized by colleagues and customers as a positive, energetic leader, creating an environment of mutual appreciation and respect.
Through dynamic and engaging presentations, Sandy is directly responsible for conducting problem gambling training classes for location owners, SGVI management, and fellow employees. This program is a testament to the dedication SGVI has to its customers and the community-at-large. Under Sandy’s instruction, class participants are trained to recognize and attend to compulsive gamblers with tact, compassion, and professionalism.
Sandy launched his career as a restaurateur in St. Thomas in 1978, opening a West Indian restaurant that served more than 800 guests per day. Following that venture, he was President and CEO of The Tartan Group, Ltd. He managed all aspects of this privately-owned nightclub/restaurant complex that is recognized as the largest of its kind in the Virgin Islands, until he accepted his current position with SGVI.
Devoted to various fields, Sandy continues to be an active member of the National Restaurant Association (NRA). In addition, he attends the NRA convention in Chicago, Illinois each year, which enables him to stay abreast of current service industry trends. He is an avid golfer and boater, maintaining a 100 ton Master Captain’s license. Sandy is a dedicated family man, enjoying his life in St. Thomas with his wife and daughter.
